Building Community Together: The Power of Parent Involvement at GRS

Over 25 years of serving Dallas families has taught us one undeniable truth: students thrive when parents and teachers work together as partners. At Golden Rule Schools, parent involvement isn't just encouraged, it’s woven into who we are. We actively invite families to become partners in their child’s educational journey because we know the strongest education happens when parents and school unite.

Building a Community, Not Just a School

When you walk into any of our five Golden Rule campuses, you’ll notice something different. Parents reading with small groups in classrooms. Families celebrating cultural heritage nights together. Volunteers sharing their professional expertise with curious students. This vibrant family presence isn't accidental - we invite parents to volunteer in classrooms, participate in events, and become a valued member of our school community.

Golden Rule families are involved in their children's education, and we intentionally create a supportive network where parents and teachers work together. We believe in building community together through parent involvement opportunities, volunteer programs, and family engagement events that make you an active partner in your child's success.

Ways to Get Involved

Parent involvement at Golden Rule looks different for every family, and that's exactly how it should be. Whether you have an hour a week or can only make it to special events, there's a place for you here. We ideally recommend a minimum of two hours of service per school year, but we would gladly accept more if you’re able to contribute!

Ways for parents to get involved include:

  • Judging contests and competitions
  • Assisting in the office
  • Read to students/have students read to you
  • Assist in the school cafeteria
  • Help in the classroom
  • Serve as a guest speaker
  • Supervise and chaperone
  • Assist with computer literacy
  • Serve on advisory committees
  • Help with special events

Specific activities warranting volunteers include, but are not limited to:

  • Pancakes for Parents
  • Grandparents’ Day
  • Muffins for Moms
  • Donuts for Dads
  • Career Day
  • History Fair

Interested in volunteering?

Fill out the GRS volunteer application, consent to a criminal background check, and be approved.

After approval, attend a volunteer orientation and training session.

Involved Parents Make a Difference

The research is clear: when parents are involved in their child's education, everyone wins.

Academic Success: Children with involved parents tend to earn higher grades, improved attendance, and stronger homework habits

Social and Emotional Growth: Students whose parents participate in school activities demonstrate better behavior, stronger social skills, and increased confidence and self-esteem

Long-Term Success: The benefits extend past elementary and secondary school. Students with involved parents are more likely to succeed in high school, attend college, and develop into productive, engaged citizens; exactly what Golden Rules mission aims to achieve.

At Golden Rule School, we're not only inviting our students to join our school community, but their families as well! Your family has a place here. Join us tuition-free. Schedule a tour today!
