We’re shining the Golden Spotlight on Korina Lopez who has been teaching PreK4 at Golden Rule School’s Sunnyside campus for six years. She’s one of many dedicated teachers at Golden Rule Schools who creates a welcoming and nurturing environment for students. As one of our early childhood teachers, she’s also one of the first faces students meet at school. Let’s get to know Ms. Lopez - we know you’ll love her as much as our youngest students do!
What do you love about teaching at Golden Rule?
It is really rewarding to see the students grow, especially since many of them are coming from home for the very first time to school. Over the years at Golden Rule, one of the greatest joys has been witnessing multiple generations of students, seeing them start their first year at school and then progress to kindergarten. I truly want to continue experiencing this every year. The parents in the Golden Rule families are always supportive and actively involved in their children’s education, which makes a big difference.
What makes PreK at Golden Rule Schools a special place to be?
This is a place where every student truly matters. It is a safe and welcoming environment where they are treated with respect, nurtured with learning, care, and love. All in a fun and playful way.
Describe an experience in the Golden Rule PreK that excites you to come to school everyday.
I was at the restaurant when one of my former students, who was in third grade at the time, made her parents stop and enter the restaurant because she wanted to say hello to her Pre-K teacher! Her parents were also surprised that I recognized her and remembered her name and recognized her after all those years. I told her that I remember her because every student is special to me. Moments like these remind me that each day really counts and inspire me to start each morning striving to give my best. It is what motivates me to come to school every day, so my students can experience the best day of their lives, every single day.
Tell us a bit about you. What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I have been a teacher for 18 years, and I truly love what I do. I want my students to feel secure, safe, and loved. I enjoy providing them with diverse materials because I believe everyone learns differently. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my students with smiling faces. Teaching is my passion, and I cannot imagine doing anything else. When I am not in the classroom, I enjoy reading, gardening, and embroidering.
