Golden Rule's Parent Letter- July 20th

7/20/2020

Dear Golden Rule Parents,

Throughout the summer months, the situation surrounding COVID-19 has continued to change at a rapid pace. During the entire planning process for our return to school, Golden Rule has kept the safety of our students, staff and families at the forefront while considering both In-Person and At-Home Learning options. As active cases continue to rise both locally and statewide, Golden Rule has considered the difficult choice to move to a Remote Learning virtual model for at least the first three weeks of school for all students. Students will not attend campus for any In-Person instruction during this time. Please know this decision was not made lightly, but with the safety of our students, staff and community in mind.

As of now, all students will begin the first day of school on August 17 participating in remote learning. During this three-week period, Golden Rule teachers and staff will report to district facilities to focus on the education of your children. This will allow our staff to utilize campus resources and instructional tools to provide students with structured and engaging learning opportunities. Following the three-week period, on September 8, our plan is for students who have chosen In-Person Learning to return to campus, and students who have chosen Remote Learning to continue to learn from home. To provide as much consistency as possible, Golden Rule will make every effort for students to have the same teachers and classmates during and after this three-week period.

In order to build your child’s schedule and assign their teachers, Golden Rule is requiring all parents to complete the NEW Student Commitment Survey for either In-Person Learning or Remote Learning for each child. This survey will also help us identify which students may need to borrow a technology device to complete Remote Learning assignments.

We are also sharing our Preliminary Opening Guidelines to be reviewed by both parents and staff.  This can be found on our district webpage under the  “Public Notice” tab.  We value any input in re-opening our schools.  The Opening Guideline Manual was created with the recommendations of TEA, local, and state health officials. You may submit your feedback and/or suggestions at info@goldencharter.org.

In conclusion, we realize the challenge that this three-week change brings for many of our families, and I know so many of our students and staff were looking forward to returning to campus for the start of a new school year. I want to thank each of you for your continued understanding and support as we work to keep our students, staff, and community safe.  If any changes are made to the start of school date, we will notify everyone as soon as possible.

Respectfully,

Mr. Ernie Amaton, Deputy Superintendent
