About Mrs. Teffera

Hello Parents and Students,

This is my  2nd year teaching at Golden Rule Charter School, Illinois Campus and my 4th year teaching overall.  I absolutely love learning about and teaching Social Studies and U.S. History.  I graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2001 with a double degree in Political Science and French.  Born in Wisconsin, I moved to Dallas over 10 years ago and I am finally used to the weather. I was a chef for 13 years before going back to school to become a teacher. I am happily married to a teacher and we have 2 cats; 3 if you count the strays I feed.

My teaching philosophy includes creating engaging lessons with hands on experiences.  I enjoy leading Readers Theater and acting out historical events to make the subjects come alive for my students.

Why do we need to learn about history?  History helps us understand change and how the society we live in came to be.  The second reason history is inescapable as a subject of serious study follows closely on the first. The past causes the present, and so the future.  Plus, it's where a lot of English sayings come from!
