Parent/Guardian Consent Required – Senate Bill 12
In accordance with the new Texas law, Senate Bill 12, Golden Rule Schools is required to obtain written parent/guardian consent for students to:
These services may be provided by school nurses, counselors, social workers, athletic staff, and other certified health and mental health professionals.
The legislation ensures that parents and guardians are fully informed and grant permission for these supports. In the event of a serious emergency, staff will always take necessary action to protect your child’s safety and will contact you immediately. Staff may also verbally check on a student’s daily well-being.
Granting consent allows your child to benefit from timely and reliable services that promote health, safety, wellness, and learning readiness. Without consent, staff will be limited in the services they can provide during the school day.
Parental consent should be granted also for students to participate in the School Climate Survey to learn about students’ perceptions of safety, relationships, and support at school. This survey is part of our work with the Stronger Connections Grant and aligns with the Student Support Framework. This survey will be available from October 1st, 2025 to November 12th, 2025 by the Texas Institute for Excellence in Mental Health of The University of Texas at Austin. The link will be provided on this page once it becomes available.
